After constant rain and gloomy skies since Tuesday night, I decided to go to Rehoboth Beach and check out the damage from Ida. It seems that the entire state of Delaware had the same idea. It looked like the middle of August. People on the beach, the boardwalk the streets. It was almost festive, but for the eroded beach, storm whacked boardwalk and rough seas.
It could have been a lot worse; the damage could have been like that in NC and VA. The powers that be will again put the sand back, as tourism is critical for the resort towns from Lewes to Fenwick Island. I expect that the southernmost towns were hit hardest. Attached are 2 videos and a few photos of the boardwalk and beach erosion. Sun is predicted for tomorrow. Until then, I'll be hunkered down in Milford for another evening.

Remember to double click to enlarge photos,
This is not from the storm. They are laying new boardwalk
The beach drops off at shoulder height as seen by the passer by on the beach
You can see where the sea covered the boardwalk in places.

You certainly have become a computer genius -- what with facebook, youtube videos, blogs, identity theft, etc. Wish I had 1% of your talent.
I love the boardwalks in DE/NJ. Such wonderful, magical places and so many great memories. I still want to own a pizza place on the boardwalk - we could all work there all summer, make oodles of money, and then spend Labor Day to Memorial Day taking it easy.
I have pics from Oct from those very spots at Rehobeth. Glad I got to see the "before" version. Just hadn't heard about the damage there, all the Ida focus was on the Gulf Coast. Guess once it got to you it was old news.
An article in the paper today talked about the eroding beaches in Hawaii and the obvious impact on tourism. Sounds like the problem is all over. Could it possibly be global warming??? Nah, that's just fiction, right???
Very sad.
I would like to work at the pizza shop.
great read. I would love to follow you on twitter. By the way, did anyone hear that some chinese hacker had busted twitter yesterday again.
