Off Route, Off Route

What an eventful day. First, the wall framing on my house is done.

Second, I took a drive to the Silver Lake area near Rehoboth Beach today to look for a colony of Monk Parakeets I have seen in the past. When I got there, I found out from a resident that the parakeets hadn't been seen there for over two years.

What I did see, though, was something that birders don't often get a chance to see; that is, an errant bird that shouldn't be anywhere near the place at which it was sighted. In this case, it was a black bellied whistling duck. It seemed perfectly at home with about 50 mallard ducks. It's home is Central and South America. You can see it in the foreground; the one with the black belly and Mohawk hairdo. Click to see just how stunning it is. A great find!

Third, a personal note to Dog Walker. Yes, I have received some mail lately and I thank you so much for that. It was the second piece of mail I received at my new digs.

Too cool about the framing being finished!

Very cool about the black bellied whistling duck!

And WAY cool that you are such an expert birder; noticing the duck and knowing what it was, and that it didn't quite belong w. the others!

It's like having your very own personal tri-fecta!

That IS cool...to see a species that I would not have known doesn't normally come around here. Poor little guy has no friends like himself...(or herself). wonder why/how it got lost away from his/her own kind? Bet it doesn't really appreciate all this cold weather!

I'm around this weekend, hanging at home, doing my tax forms, that's about it if you need to get away Jude.
