Last night my cousin, Eleanor, and I drove over to Slaughter Beach. It's the closest beach to her condo. We got there before dark to see if there was anything going on just before high tide and the May full moon. It's at this time of year that the horseshoe crabs come ashore to spawn. When I was in town last May looking for a building lot, we went there too. But we never saw one spawning crab due to the flooding that took place last Spring. It disrupted their schedule and caused them to arrive in dribs and drabs. Last night was different. Unfortunately, it had rained and clouds made the night dark, but we saw the first wave of crabs coming ashore. There were hundreds of them and we were able to get a couple of pics. We hope so see thousands of them if we go there at the right time. We intended to go back tonight, but the thunderstorm we had late afternoon made the skies cloudy again. We'll go back another night, probably tomorrow. But I plan to go back tomorrow morning to see if there are migrating shorebirds there by the thousands, feeding on the eggs. Fingers are crossed.
The latest on 604 Evergreen: Cabinets are to arrive Monday afternoon; cabinets are to be placed on Tuesday, as well as the septic system (finally). I expect a lot of things of the finishing type will be happening after that.
On May 29th I'll be leaving for Indiana and will pick up the rental moving truck that next Tuesday. I'll then load what I have at my brother's house and my brother, Ed (the contractor) and Sandy and I will be off to Memphis. Then we'll load the rest of my household goods and drive on to Black Mountain, N.C. where I have a new bedroom set waiting for me to pick up. Off, then, to Milford to unload all of that by Friday, the 6th. It sounds like a lot to do in a relatively short period of time.
But the contractor says it is totally doable.

I thought this was a "family site." What is that smaller male crab doing?
"SCRABATORY" RAPE.
Now we're having fun! Keep those out-of-the-box comments flowing.
