Back Home

I'm back home, after over 1000 miles of travel through Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, cleaning up S Cargo for my next trip to Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York next week.

As for the previous trip - it was great fun to see my friend, Joyce again. We both agreed that meeting at Blackwater Bay was a winner. It's a very nice area in Milton, FL. The town of Milton, once called Scratch Ankle because of the problems folks had with briers on the steep banks of the Blackwater River, is small-town America for sure. While we were there, we stopped by the yearly Scratch Ankle Festival along the main street.

The best thing about the Florida part of the trip was being able to hook up at Marv's (Piano Man) vacation spot. It was a perfect place to be at this time of year. I hear that it is a fantastic fishing area because at different times of the year one can hook salt water fish, then fresh water fish at other times. That must certainly be a dream come true for anglers of all persuasions. We also had the opportunity to meet many of his friends and relatives over a homemade shrimp stew dinner. Many thanks go out to the perfect host - Marv. Photo of Blackwater Bay near his place:

We had a chance to see some nice beaches; areas much less built up and crowded as you find farther east in Fort Walton Beach, Destin, and on into Panama City. Part of the open spaces in Navarre and Pensacola beaches were due to hurricanes in 2005.

Next week I'll be stopping at sites in Tennessee and in Maryland near Washington, DC on my way to a 4 night stop at Assateague Island National Seashore. Then on up to Delaware and points beyond for an undetermined amount of time.
