First stop on the trip was Davis Bayou. The campground is part of the Gulf Islands Nat'l Seashore. It is one of a couple of campsites belonging to the Nat'l Seashore. The other is in Florida. I didn't stay long enough to check out what the area had to offer, as my real mission was to get to Dauphin Island, AL and look for some "life list" birds. My guess is that it is a bayou (swamp), and might have some birds of its own. It did look rather bleak. My detour was purely to obtain my Nat'l Parks Senior Pass.I arrived at the visitor's center at the park 1/2 an hour after closing time, but was directed to the campground where I found a volunteer working after hours. She was happy to provide me with the pass and to find me a site for the night. I settled in and woke up 'with the birds' on Thursday. It was on to Alabama and day 2 of the trip.

WOW! That Senior Pass sure is pretty. I want one! It may have been a lot less hassle to get it after hours...you probably planned it that way all along.
I wish you all the best with the bird watching. I sometimes wonder if the birds watch the birdwatchers?
OK, sorry but I must post this because I thought it was very well done. It's for all the engineers and cat lovers out there who read this blog:

Where are the birdie pics? Guess you're just getting to the heart of them. How's New B. Bird doin'?
Did you know that I played cello at the Pennsylvania Avenue Elementary School? I think the music teacher may have been Mr. Cooley.
I think I would be a good travelling companion should you decide not to always "Go it Alone." I would gladly play a few sonantas for cello while you drive us to our next destination.
Man, I hope spelling doesn't count on this blog.
OMG--Mr. Cooley???? I remember him also! IHS, class of '68, same as Fifi. Who R U? Feef, remember Mr. Cooley?
I also played cello at PA Elementary, but alas it was too big to carry 3 looooooong blocks to school, so I switched to viola. Oh, the memories. Mr Cooley rings a bell too. Did he have freckles and reddish hair?
You write very well.
